Principal's Message

Greetings!

This school year is off to a great start and the fall promises to be another one filled with “Lancer Pride” as we start our final year in our temporary home in the Oakdale building.
One of the keys to a great start is parent involvement. Parents can monitor their child’s progress via Pinnacle, our grade reporting program. You can access Pinnacle by going to the www.fcps.org site and clicking on Grades Online or using the link, https://fcsd.gradebook.net/Pinnacle/PIV.
Parents are encouraged to participate in our booster organizations and to participate in the conference opportunities on October 13 and 15. Conference sign-ups started at Back-to-School Night and will continue over the next several weeks. Specific days and times for future sign-ups will be announced via Find Out First and Channel 18 and will be noted on our home page as soon as they are finalized.
On October 14, LHS will offer the PSAT to all 10th graders, free of charge. 9th graders who are currently taking Algebra 2 and 11th graders may also take the PSAT for the standard cost. 11th graders are reminded that taking the PSAT during the 11th grade is the only way to enter the National Merit Scholarship Competition. For more information about taking the PSAT, contact our student services (guidance) office.
Also, that same busy week in October, we’ll celebrate our homecoming week with a series of spirited activities, culminating with the Homecoming Dance on Friday, October 16.
Finally, we’re pleased that construction on our new facility appears to be on schedule. Our “new Linganore” was under roof earlier this month and we hope it will be weather tight by November.
